Virtually all visitors of the Alaska Kenai Peninsula fly into Anchorage and rent a car. It is a gorgeous 2.5 hour drive to the small town of Soldotna,Alaska, which will be home-base for you and your party. In addition, many of your charters/trips will be a short/scenic drive from Soldotna. Having transportation is a must. Fishing Alaska Kenai
Many of our clients choose to harvest their catch and take it home with them. We can arrange for your fish to be processed, then you will have the option to take your fish on the plane as a checked bag, or to send it home via FedEx.
You may choose to stay with a full service lodge that serves food, but most stay at DIY lodges, in which the client is responsible for their own meals. This is not a problem, as the town of Soldotna is has a wide array of restaurants and grocery stores for your convenience.
The quick answer is that it depends. It depends what your priorities are, and specifically, what you want to fish for and do while you are here. There is a wide array of fishing and other opportunities from late May to October. The crowds of fishermen are at their peak during July, but there is always a way to get away from traffic, if that is a priority for you. For run timing, check out the links page. The Alaska Kenai Peninsula is a recreational wonderland. Most likely, you'll be fishing for the majority of your trip, but for those interested in other activities, there are a multitude of experiences to be had, such as: glacier walks, scenic flights, fjords cruises, beaches, clam digging, golf, the visitors centers, wildlife refuge headquarters, the Alaska sealife center, gift shops, hiking, scenic driving, etc... The Alaska Kenai Peninsula is one of the most breathtaking gems one could ever lay their eyes on, and a visit to Alaska is like one big long sight seeing trip no matter where you end up; however, there are several destinations that stand out among the rest, and are certainly worth the detour. Some of these trips include The Kenai Fjords Cruise out of Seward, A flight seeing trip in a bush plane, and a scenic float through the Upper Kenai River and the Kenai Canyon.
