Looking back on 2011, I feel very lucky. With all the issues with the economy, controversial fisheries management decisions, and a below-average second run of King Salmon, I somehow barely noticed any of it. Sure, there were days when we had to work a little harder than normal to catch fish, but more often than not the fish wound up coming through and we had very few days that I would consider to be unsuccessful. In Alaska, and on the Kenai River, the term "tough fishing" is relative. The reality is that just about every other place on earth would love to experience the "tough fishing" we often claim to experience here. During a time of of the year in which soft water fishing is rare, fishermen have a lot of time (maybe too much time) to think about and strategize for the next season. Personally, I am optimistic that the fishing will be amazing, as it normally is. I look forward to spending time with guests, new and old, on the water and talking about the great fishing we experiene(d) in 2011.
